  • Fire: volunteer fire departments located in New Denver and Silverton provide the area with firefighting coverage

Health
  • Hospital: the Slocan Community Hospital and Health Care Centre in New Denver has acute and extended-care beds, a small emergency department, and laboratory and X-ray services.
  • Medical Clinic: staffed by two full-time and one part-time physician, the New Denver Medical Clinic is adjacent to the hospital.
  • Cancer InfoNet Group: a new service to be provided by volunteers to cancer patients, allowing the non-computer-literate to access cancer information on the internet
  • Dental Clinic: Dr. Wiseman's dental office in Silverton serves the community and region, providing orthodontic services as well.
  • Nursing Home: Attached to the hospital is a thirty-bed nursing home with the best view in the world.
  • Counselling: community counsellors visit weekly from Nakusp.
  • Physiotherapy: a part-time physiotherapist provides in-patient and out-patient services in the hospital.
  • Naturopathic and Traditional Chinese Medicine: Dr. Fournier visits the hospital outpatient department weekly to offer his expertise in these areas.
  • Occupational Therapy: a part-time occupational therapist provides in-patient and out-patient services in the hospital.
  • Public Health Unit: The public health nurse visits monthly to provide immunization services.
  • Hospice Society: Trained volunteers provide support services to the dying and their families.
  • Last Wishes is a non-denominational volunteer community society formed to deliver information to its membership regarding private funeral arrangements, including planning for burial or cremation. They have created an info package which can be downloaded.

Transportation
  • Arrow and Slocan Lake Community Services: runs a wheelchair accessible minibus roundtrip from Nakusp through New Denver, Silverton and the Slocan Valley to Nelson on Tuesdays and Thursdays and roundtrip from Silverton and New Denver to Nakusp and the Hot Springs on Wednesdays

Library Services
  • A well-stocked Reading Centre is open eight hours a week, staffed by dedicated volunteers.
    • Location: ground floor of Knox Hall at corner of 6th Ave. and Columbia St.
    • Hours: Mondays and Wednesdays 7-9 pm and Tuesdays and Thursdays 2-4 pm.
    • Public internet access available.
