![]() Newcomers to the area will be pleasantly surprised to learn that amidst the rugged mountains of the Selkirks and the Purcells they can remain entertained and informed. A TV society has been around now for about 45 years. A brief account of the extraordinay things volunteers have accomplished in order to maintain a working system can be seen in the History page. Since no records were kept in early days, much of this information has been obtained by interviewing local residents who were involved. The Society's role in the community has changed little since its inception in 1957, but the services have improved. We now provide six television and three radio signals. Currently, ours is the only site rebroadcasting CBC Stereo Two in the South East Region of the province. In addition, the CBC maintains their own transmission tower, adjacent to the towers owned the TV Society, which provides residents with a CBC television signal and CBC Radio One. |

A referendum was successfully completed in the region in 1995 that permitted the TV Society to receive a small amount of money from householders in our region, collected as part of the property tax. The society is run by an executive of seven elected officials. An annual general meeting is held in March; the board of directors also meets throughout the year and the public is always welcome to attend. Information about re-transmission service or any other queries regarding the society can be obtained by e-mail from tharrop@telus.net or by writing to; Corresponding Secretary,Area "H" North TV Society, Box 224, New Denver, BC, V0G 1S0 The photo at the top of this page shows the mouth of Carpenter Creek in New Denver as it enters Slocan Lake, with our two transmission towers on the left bank, and the beautiful peaks of Valhalla Provincial Park in the background |
